Rails 2.0

Rails 2.0 is here.

Since I haven’t tried it myself yet, I’ll skip any comments until the moment I get my hands on it.

But I have a word to all those naysayers claiming that Rails was nothing but an overhyped thingy and would cease to exist soon. Oh really? Then please take a look at monster.com or any other employment searching website and see the amount of Rails positions available. Moreover, take a look at the salaries they’re offering. Flying higher than Java.. who would say?

Plus, I’m currently working as a freelancer software engineer consultant and I’ve been fortunate enough to have a lot of requirements for working on Rails projects. Demand is high, so I suppose it made it through the hype pipeline.

    São linguagens semelhantes e a diferença não é tanto na funcionalidade mas mais no gosto. É como preferir um BMW ou um Mercedes — são gostos.

    Pessoalmente, prefiro o syntax sugar do Ruby mas também gosto muito de Python. Depois há outras coisas que em Ruby são mais fáceis, como por exemplo Meta Programming. Por outro lado, na versão actual, o interpretador de Python é mais rápido que o de Ruby, mas a situação tenderá a ficar semelhante com o lançamento do Ruby 1.9.

    É à escolha do freguês. Ambas linguagens são boas e potentes.
