The joy of being Portuguese

We are only 10 million (plus another 10 living across other countries), but we sure have a personality!

Years ago I played a game called Unreal Tournament. I was quite serious about it and changed clans as soccer players change soccer clubs. Everything was fine during the first months and perhaps up until one year and a half. With the growing popularity of the online gaming phenomena, it started attracting weirdo individuals. The outcome: fights over clans, daily gossips, and the usual panacea of uninteresting events.

Now I take a look at the Portuguese blog aggregators and I think to myself: “Here we go again…”.

Instead of enjoying what they’re doing (playing, writing posts, etc…), the Portuguese waste their energies criticizing and pointing the finger to others. The outcome is nil as the posts do not contribute to anything even remotely interesting. Just plain and childish whining.

Bouncing back to the UT story, I remember that after one year and a half, some clans decided to move to the IRC QuakeNet instead of PTNet for two chief reasons: 1) be closer to the worldwide gaming community; 2) avoid the gossips. But then, the trolls kept coming back and forth just to the displeasing of everyone else.

Taking a look at the Portuguese blog aggregators, I’m envisioning exactly the same scenario.

So, for a change, mind your own business. These cat fights are so ridiculous it reminds me that the Portuguese have a deep emotional problem to be addressed. Stop wasting time criticizing other’s business. Please focus your energies in doing something productive as the country really needs it.

I rest my case!

P.S. - This post is targeted to individuals in the three Portuguese blog aggregators and not to someone specific so please avoid more gossip by not extrapolating targets. Thanks.

P.S. 2 - Comments will be closed to avoid further conversation about this sick topic.
