Promoting Entrepreneurship
- Published August 1st, 2007 in Upfront News

I’d like to talk about a particular ongoing project as part of my quest to promote entrepreneurship in Portugal.
The guy left his full time job and, along with a friend, dived into the cold waters of starting a company and a web project. The project itself consists of a social wine website, allowing you to share your wine discoveries (hey, if you want to patronage me, make sure you send me a bottle of Duas Quintas Reserve 1997 ;-) or meet people with a similar taste as yours.
He’s actually André Ribeirinho and he left his stable job (I guess) at SAPO. He’s going through a private beta for his project, Adegga. Make sure you keep an eye on it as it looks promising.
P.S. - If you’re in the same situation, write me an email and I’d be glad to post about your own entrepreneurship adventure too. Some publicity to 1K unique visitors per day shouldn’t harm you.

Hi Mario,
thank you for talking about Adegga and congratulations for deciding to support entrepreneurship in Portugal. Not only we need more projects but we also need posts like these to support them.
You guessed it right about SAPO. I was a full time worker on contract - no time to end. Nevertheless, I would disagree to call it stable. On most stable jobs, stable actually refers to your learning curve and the capacity to grow. Don’t take me wrong, SAPO is a great company to work for. I’ve always wanted to work there and really liked the time I was there. But I wouldn’t stay there just because it’s a stable job. Seth Godin would say “Safe is risky”. :)
Andre’, I was kind of being ironic when I said “stable job”. Most of the people I know are only looking for a “stable job” and they don’t pursue their dreams. I can’t condone that. Portugal (and Europe for that matter) needs entrepreneurs ready to take risks.
I’m really glad you’re taking the risks and, hopefully, they will bring you a lot of joy — doing what you really like to do and some nice income too ;-)
I’ll keep promoting these kind of initiatives. We need them!
Again, best of luck.
