Walter Peter on Apple and Google
Here’s Walter Peter statement on two of my favorite companies of all time, Google and Apple:
Apple and Google (GOOG) are the two companies with the greatest talent for innovation in this spirit — innovation that achieves true “elegance.” Google Search and AdWords are elegant. iPod is elegant.
And the iPhone is indeed elegant. And obvious — true innovation is exquisitely obvious.
Google may be the great money making machine, but as to innovation, we are all living in Apple’s shadow now.
iPhone reviews are unanimous: again, it’s a real innovation. Apple does innovate a lot, whether you like or not.
Unfortunately, I’m not very confident with the AT&T deal as I expressed several times and the rates they’re charging are way beyond a consumer level pricing. iPhone is not a business gadget but the whole deal (iPhone + 2 year subscription) is being sold as one. The price itself is not scary (again, my HTC P3300 was costing about 650 euros by the time I bought it) but the AT&T’s dependency scares the hell out of me.
Update: As I suspected, complaints about AT&T are now popping out. The complaints are not bound to the fact that it’s single networked but rather that’s single networked with AT&T! Let’s hope Apple partnerships with Vodafone in Europe.
Update 2: There’s a $36 activation fee! You’re paying a premium price plus the monthly price that starts at $59.99 (which is everything but cheap) and you still have to pay an activation fee? Plus $175 for canceling the contract? Steve, please reconsider your deal with AT&T. It’s not worth the rumored 10% Apple would get out of each monthly payment — because there won’t be enough clients!
