Virtual Keyboards on WM and iPhone
- Published June 16th, 2007 in Rant
I was not aware of how bad Windows Mobile was until I bought and run through the burden of actually using it. When I mean bad, I mean it. It’s terrible. I like bashing Microsoft? True. But let me say that Microsoft Office is a quite good product and Windows a fairly decent Operating System.
Now, having said that, let me boldly reiterate what I’ve said before: Windows Mobile is the worst piece of software I’ve ever used! Ever!
Take a look at these screenshots. Even with a stylus it’s really hard to use the virtual keyboard (my mobile phone does not have a real keyboard). My girlfriend blatantly refuses to use it. So should I (if it wasn’t for TomTom…).

Now compare it to the iPhone:

I dont quite agree with you post, Mário.
I’ve been using till now a S200 width WM5 and the keyboard works perfectly with stylus. Unfortunaly, not with by fingers because I have a very big hand.
I just bought a HTC TyTN that has a sideboard qwerty keyboard (i write so much, I needed one) but even without it, there is an option to make keys look bigger (almost as iPhone).
I’d like just to add that WM5 allows running offline apps. What about iPhone? only online, correct?
Alcides,
We’re yet to know whether applications can be run offline or not. Either way, AT&T contract features a wireless plan where you don’t pay more for being online.
VDIAS,
I’ve been using my HTC P3300 for almost an year now. I can now talk about the operating system that is the biggest piece of crap. Ever. I desperate whenever I try to write a SMS to someone else. Also, sometimes it does not find my contacts by name! I have to go to contacts and select “send a message”. Someday I’ll write a post about all the perks about Windows Mobile. It would take me a day writing it..
P.S. - Please keep the conversation in English in respect to my non-portuguese readers. Thanks!
Eu uso Windows Mobile já desde o tempo do… Já nem me lembro… Como se chamava o que tava antes do 2003? ;)
Como todos os produtos tem bugs… mas digamos que é 99% funcional…
VDIAS,
Again, please keep the conversation English in respect to those who do not speak Portuguese.
WM is 99% functional. I’ll give you that. But 0% intuitive and with a full lack on usability.
