The IsNot() patent — Microsoft, of course
- Published May 14th, 2007 in Tech Comment
After the huge announcement that Microsoft was about to throw their patent portfolio at Linux and Free Software overall I went to investigate some of Microsoft’s patents. The coolest is definitely isNot().
Yes kiddos, they patented the isNot() function as proclaimed by the following “”"invention”"”: “A system, method and computer-readable medium support the use of a single operator that allows a comparison of two variables to determine if the two variables point to the same location in memory.”.
I don’t know what’s worst. USPTO that granted one of the most stupid patents ever (competing with Amazon’s 1-click checkout) or Microsoft that had the courage to submit such a ridiculous thing.
I’m anxious to see which patents has the Free Software community violated.
