Samsung 226BW

3492_large_275T_front.jpg

Some days ago I went to Frys to look for a cheap TFT monitor (which would be my main entertainment hub, perhaps connected to an iTv). I found a Samsung 226BW, 22″ TFT monitor with a 2ms response time and a contrast ratio of 3000:1. All of this for $379 USD.

Those reading this post from Portugal (and, overall, Europe) are thinking to themselves “OMG, what a bargain!”. Yeah, it is. But it doesn’t cut to the job. After fine-tunning for a lot of time I gave up. It’s greenish and I’ve actually seen better quality. Also, 1680×1050 is such a low resolution for a 22″ monitor. Everything looks huge. It seems I’m using a 800×600 resolution on a 17″ monitor.

So basically if you’re thinking about buying this, don’t. Try finding a better deal. Dell 2007WFP although being only 20″ seems to be much nicer. I’ve been quite impressed by some NEC displays I’ve seen! (Check out this one).

I think I’ll give the Dell 2407WFP a try. Oh yes, that’s because I can simply return the monitor in 30 days without anyone asking a single question. And if it were in Walmart I’d have 90 days! Welcome to the USA, baby!

    Yo!

Did you actually get a Samsung 226bw working on OSX? I bought one (and then saw your post)— and it has this strange vertical artifacting..

any ideas on how to clean up the image? or a driver?

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Robert.

Well, it worked but the colors were an absolute deception so I returned the monitor. I connected to my MacBook with using the DVI connector.

If you can, return it as soon as possible and get a Dell 2407WFP! It’s a little bit more expensive but definitely worth it.

    Cheers.
