Reducing echo at the end point of a VoIP call

If people at the other end of the call are always complaining about echo, especially when you’re using a SIP hardware like Linksys PAP2, then consider reducing the FXS Port Input/Output gain. Basically, the echo is the result of a high volume of the speaker that bounces back at the microphone.

I set mine at -12 dB (Input and Output) and it has cleared echo but it really depends on your PSTN (POTS) phone. Try adjusting it. It goes from 0 to -Infinity (remember that dB is logarithmic so 0 is actually quite loud).
