Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit USB + Mac OS X
- Published February 17th, 2007 in Apple
Contrary to the usual myth that Mac OS X does not support unusual hardware (and an USB sound card is absolutely uncommon since no Mac has ever shipped with one Cube has it seems!) let me tell you that it works flawlessly out of the box.
Instructions
- Plug it in
- Profit!
Well, not quite. But it isn’t much harder. Just go to System Preferences and on the sound Pane just change the Input/Output to your recently detected Sound Blaster Live! 24bit. Ploff, it works!
P.S. - Let’s see how this procedure goes in Debian..

Not quite true… my Cube has a USB sound card! ;)
is it really WORK? I wanna buy this,, it’s cheap. ;-)
I think MAC needs USB audio driver installed, otherwise, it’s working just on 16bit/48khz.,, but costs $60 :(

AKI,
I’ve heard that the USB audio driver just provides you with a better control of the hardware, namely the mute button, etc. Regarding the basic features like input/output frequency Mac OS X Tiger’s driver should have no change over it.
But I’m not sure. We’ll have to confirm this issue.
Hi Rui,
Firstly, please write your comments in English so that foreigners can understand the conversation. Thanks.
Your problem is weird. Have you tested the basic stuff like if you’re connecting the headphones to the right jack (do not use the digital output) or if it is enabled on System Preferences? Also, the hardware has an external mute button. Make sure that is not turned on by mistake.
Hope it helps.
Hi, sorry about not writing in English.
I’ve solved the problem just by restarting :O now it works just fine, by the headphones jack and front speakers ;) thanks, i was kind of desperate cause Saturday i’m gonna have my first experience has a DJ in a bar/disco, but now it’s ok, thank god…lol
Good luck with that! :-)
I’m also a DJ by the way.
