Why I use Safari on the Mac
- Published January 21st, 2007 in Tech Comment, Web/W3C
I work with a lot of platforms, being Mac OS X, Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows the main ones (Windows less than the others, though). On Ubuntu and Windows I use Firefox but on Mac OS X I don’t. Why?
Simple. Firefox and Camino (which uses Mozilla’s render engine, Gecko) are somewhat stable and very interesting products. Its continuous growth has been contributing to a better web where W3C standards and specifications are to be respected. People are starting to realize that there’s a world, and quite a big one, beyond Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
On the other hand, KHTML/WebKit, despite its amazing W3C conformity, has still a long way to go regarding major adoption by the web developers. This means there are a lot of web sites that don’t work correctly on Konqueror or Safari (Vodafone, CTT, etc…).
So I’m using Safari whenever I work on Mac OS X to promote web developer’s consciousness about this respectful rendering engine (KHTML/WebKit). I hope depicting the logs will result in two things on their head:
- We need to follow W3C standards
- We can’t neglect browsers like Konqueror and Safari that are continuously growing in popularity
