Sweet competition

The latest sample of utter fanboyism from Paul Thrurrott, protagonized by the latest article of this Windows Vista review, has raised interesting thoughts.
First there’s this bold statement he can’t avoid shouting
It’s this “spontaneous smile” effect that I like so much about Windows Vista, and it stands in sharp contrast to the refined but stark and unfriendly world of Mac OS X and the raw, me-too copying of Linux. Windows Vista is a better operating system than the competition, for reasons that are both technical and practical.
Ok, get a breadth and let’s get through the apparently ludicrous statement he’s making. Now, take a note that he actually cited the competition. This is something absolutely new. I don’t remember reviews of Windows 2000 or Windows XP actually citing the competition — this must mean a thing.
And according to my anedoctal evidence, it does. In 5 years of my degree I’ve probably seen 1 or 2 Apple laptops per month. On my last class there were 7 laptops. 4 out of 7 were Macs (3 were recently bought Macbooks and 1 was a 12″ Powerbook).
Things are changing. At a very fast pace…

Punished! I think a few mac users would have something to say about “stark and unfriendly”… and the line
“the raw, me-too copying of Linux” is a slap in the face to open source.. like OSS is just copying the commercial world when it’s actually much more complex then this. arrgh it just makes me sick
