Not that I use Mac OS X’s dashboard a lot, but there are some widgets that are quite useful (calculator, stock ticket, weather, wikipedia, itunes, etc..). Instead of hitting F12 each time I want to access those widgets and since I have a dual-monitor setup I have my widgets on the desktop itself.
