Microsoft drops support of IE 5 for Mac

There’s nothing important here. No one on his right mind would use IE on Mac at all when there’s Firefox and Safari. Both use good rendering engines (though I find Gecko better than KHTML/WebCore). So, dropping support for IE on Mac isn’t important at all.

What’s funny though is Microsoft’s statements.

Although Microsoft may continue to provide security and performance updates, no major new releases are planned, Microsoft Product Manager Jessica Sommer told CNET News.com. Sommer said that, with the emergence of Apple’s Safari browser, Microsoft felt that customers were better served by using Apple’s browser, noting that Microsoft does not have the access to the Macintosh operating system that it would need to compete.

Are you as astonished as I am? These guys are completely out of their mind. They have anti-trust cases set against them precisely because of this and they’re argumenting that they don’t have access to an operating system. What a poor excuse! Damn, does Opera have? Does Firefox have?

Nevermind, it’s Microsoft. Nothing good could be expected.
