if( candidate == language )

If the candidates for the portuguese presidency were programming languages, then they would be:
- Francisco Louçã: Haskell
- Mário Soares: COBOL
- Jerónimo de Sousa: LISP
- Cavaco Silva: Java
- Manuel Alegre: Pascal
I accept suggestions for Manuel Alegre and Jerónimo. And please, suggesting Basic for any of those is completely out of question since it can be seen as an insult towards these two fine men (they seem nice people despite their political choice) since they don’t have a degree.
P.S. - I was speaking seriously on my last paragraph but I couldn’t avoid making fun of Basic.. :-)

Please, do not disgrace Java. :’(
so you mean that Jerónimo it quite ahead of his time ?
I think Louçã should be more like smalltalk all objects are equals and every thing is an object (nobody use it).
Cavaco is like c# it promess to save us all from the ruin… but in the end is just like the others…
Jerónimo is like Java very nice especification the worst implementation…
Mário Soares is like a venerable Assembly very usefull in the past but now no one wants to write it.
Manuel Alegre is like Python it looks like poetry :)
Em que contexto surge este post se gosta de ter os conteúdos em inglês para poderem ser lidos pelos utilizadores estrangeiros? Só pra saber…
In what circumstances appears this post if you like to have the comments and posts written in english so that they can be read by foreign users? Just to know…
André,
I would put it the other way around: do not disgrace Cavaco. And I’m a serious Java lover. So you got a clue about whose candidate I support :-)
tony,
Got a LISP lover uh? ;-) The idea was saying: to much syntax for less content. I said Louçã was like Haskell because no one really understands Louçã. I think not even himself. I admire his social worries but he’s way too much radical.
About Cavaco, I strongly disagree that he’s like the others (disclaimer: I’m being parcial here, I support Cavaco Silva for the presidency!). While he was encharged, real things were made. Good things were achieved and I welcome that. We need a person in which we can trust and the world can trust too. And Cavaco symbolizes precisely that credibility.
You got a point there on Manuel Alegre!
ChOc@PiC,
I never said that the contents of this blog were directed for foreigners. I said though that I like to write in English in order to target a broader audience. I write a personal blog mainly focused on IT but I like to take a break some times. That’s why I have the personal and /dev/random categories.
Nevertheless, I look forward to talk about subjects that people appreciate. If you want to purpose one and would like to hear my opinion, drop me a line. I would be grateful.
When I have one I will certainly tell you. Thanks!
