Publico too busy.. right.

Publico, a very popular portuguese newspaper, had its site down for a few seconds displaying the following error

HTTP Error 500-13 - Server too busy

Then I check Netcraft and suddenly a light shined in. I’ll let you drive your own conclusions ;-)

The light didn’t shine on me.

Is it IIS? Do you have anything against it? Have you used it?

IIS may not be the best Web Server but that is no reason to be banging it all the time. The site was down for a few seconds. Imagine if it was an Apache Web Server. It would be down more time because the number of people that can deal with apache is far less than those who can deal with IIS.

Have a look at this page ttp://www.serverwatch.com/tutorials/article.php/10825_3074841_1 and you will see that IIS has more “YES”s than Apache.

IIS runs almost everything in the market. It’s installed in a large number of high traffic sites. It deserves some credibility.

Yes, it is IIS. I have used it and I have something against it.

    And it isn’t by far.

That is completely outdated and biased. First, thread/process support is now completely supported on Apache. Secondly, when they state that “command line managment” on Apache is limited I stop reading the article because they don’t have a flying clue of what they’re talking about. I’m sorry but that isn’t a good reference.

A good reference could be comparing the uptimes of Apache vs IIS. From that you can draw some conclusions. Go check it out, and you’d be thinking properly before even thinking about using IIS on any webserver.

    Uptime?

    Microsoft Site has IIS.
    EBay has IIS

I don’t remember seeing those sites down. Except when hackers attack it. But hackers attack mainly Microsoft related sites because they are fundamentalists.

Everyone says that IE is not secure, bugs, security holes, etc. Firefox also has security holes and bugs. When you start using the product you discover it’s vulnerabilities.

SIC has IIS and it went down some time ago but it all depends on the team that is behind it. If you put bad technicians handling an Apache, that site will have big downtime.

Remember the last elections in Portugal. The election results were delayed due to STAPE. STAPE has Apache.

Again, i say IIS is not the best but it’s not all bad.

IIS is the second best Web Server and everybody criticizes.
Open Office is the second best Office Suite and everybody says wonders about it.

    Microsoft Site has IIS.

    http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=www.linux.com vs http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=www.microsoft.com

Compare linux.com with microsoft.com. It’s hilarious, Linux.com Apache uptime is orders of magnitude superior compared to Microsoft’s IIS.

But hackers attack mainly Microsoft related sites because they are fundamentalists.

Hackers attack Microsoft because they dislike them. You could also take some time and investigate why they hate them.. maybe that would show you things from another point of view.

Everyone says that IE is not secure, bugs, security holes, etc. Firefox also has security holes and bugs. When you start using the product you discover it’s vulnerabilities.

Go to secunia.com and compare the number of critical flaws in IE and in Firefox. Hilarious, again.

Remember the last elections in Portugal. The election results were delayed due to STAPE. STAPE has Apache.

According to Mario Valente, that had NOTHING to do with Apache. The cause was the transaction log of IBM DB2 that was too small to handle so many requests. That sentence seemed to me Microsoft’s propaganda.

Open Office is the second best Office Suite and everybody says wonders about it.

I don’t say wonders about it. It is on version 2.0 but when you compare the prices and the fact of being Free Software, then yes, it is a wonderful product.

    ‘Nuff said.
