How Microsoft’s lobby work

Somedays ago the state of Massachussets (correct me if I missed any letter :-) decided to stick with OpenDocument instead of Microsoft’s proprietary format. The reason is obvious: standards and interoperability. A free version of an OpenDocument reader/writer is available for anyone to use at their own will. The contrary is not that obvious. I don’t have a fully functional version of Microsoft’s Office to run under my main plataform (GNU/Linux) nor they release a specification of their files so that others can fully implement it.

Regarding the decision to use OpenDocument, its pretty obvious that it makes all the sense in the world. Worldwide techs agree with this.. except Microsoft. And how do they try to manage PR and influence people who don’t are so sure about this subject? By this.
