Massachusetts & Free Software against all odds!

The state of Massachusetts in the USA has decided that it should use no more proprietary formats for digital content. Instead, they will be using open formats like OASIS’s OpenDocument and Adobe PDF. Rule beginning on January 1st, 2007.
Since Microsoft Office does not make use of OpenDocument, this rule also means that the productivity suite will also be changed (probably) to Openoffice.org, a Free Software office suite, sponsored by Sun Microsystems.
Just like Munich, there are lobbies to break through so the process will be tough. Microsoft is making use of its power to stop this “revolution” (on their own words). I hope everything goes well, as it would be a very successful example that open formats should prevail as the main plataform.
